How Do I Install or Replace The Diverter for My Floor Mount Roman Tub Filler?

This article will explain how to remove and replace a diverter for a floor-mount tub filler faucet.

Please note that the images are for reference only. The product shown in this article may differ from yours, but the information below is still relevant.

To remove and replace a diverter, you must

  1. Remove the handheld shower and shower hose from the holder.
  2. Remove the holder.
  3. Remove the diverter handle.
  4. Remove the old diverter.
  5. Replace the new diverter.
  6. Reinstall the diverter handle, holder, handheld shower and shower hose.
  7. Test for leak and diverter function.

Please note: Before doing any work on your faucet, please shut off the water supply for your faucet.

Once the water is turned off, you are ready to begin.

Before working on your faucet, you will need the following tools:

Screwdriver Diverter Wrench* 5/8" (16 mm) Hex Wrench 3/32" (2.5 mm) Hex Wrench

* Diverter wrench available with diverter assembly. Contact our customer care team to obtain the assembly.

Step 1 – Remove the handheld shower from the holder and unscrew the shower hose from the holder connection.

Step 2 – Remove the set screw using a 3/32” (2.5 mm) hex wrench, counter-clockwise.

Step 3 – Remove the holder by pulling it away from the faucet body.

For the Square model only, remove the holder connector using a 5/8” (16 mm) hex wrench, counter- clockwise.

Step 4 – Place the diverter wrench into the slot to hold to diverter and insert the screwdriver into the holes on the diverter wrench. Hold the assembled tool in place with one hand and use the other to remove the diverter handle by rotating the diverter handle counter-clockwise.

Step 5 – Once the diverter handle is removed from the faucet body, rotate counter-clockwise the assembled diverter wrench to remove the diverter complete from the faucet body.

Step 6 – Replace the new diverter and using the assembled diverter wrench to rotate and reinstall the diverter back to place.

Step 7 – Without removing the assembled diverter wrench, hold the assembled diverter wrench in place with one hand and using the other to screw clockwise the diverter handle back in place.

Step 8 – For Square model only, before install the holder back in place, reinstall the holder connector using a 5/8” (16 mm) hex wrench rotate clockwise.

Reinsert the holder back to faucet body and fix with the set screw using a 3/32” (2.5 mm) hex wrench, clockwise.

Step 9 – Reinstall the shower hose back to the holder connector and place the handheld shower back to holder.

Step 10 – Test for leaks and for diverter function.
